It's like Telltale's writers read a description of GoT that said the good guys lose and wrote a story where they lose all the time. But I cannot in good conscience recommend Telltale Game of Thrones to anyone who isn't a sadist or a nihilist looking for validation. And the ending is kind of a cliffhanger that unfortunately will never be resolved. However, that suffering usually makes sense. But the issue is that they seem to believe that pain, horror, and narrative cruelty is equivalent to depth or good storytelling.Īgain, I'm a fan of Game of Thrones, so I'm not unfamiliar with GRRM's writing style or how the characters are made to suffer. I'm a writer myself, so I can certainly forgive the team for being unable to make any major changes to the lore or have the main house do anything to derail the show's plot line. There were several instances in which the game made dialogue choices for me, or scenes just failed to load and the game glitched out for a few seconds.īut what bothered me most was the narrative. Telltale Game of Thrones is among their more bug-ridden games. That said, after the disappointing narrative of Game of Thrones' final season (I'm not here to start an argument, if you liked it that's cool), I was hoping Telltale's Game of Thrones would at least satisfy that craving for more well written excitement from the world of Ice and Fire. Sure Telltale games have a lot of glitches, but The Wolf Among Us and Tales from the Borderlands count among two of my favorite games of all time, and I enjoyed The Walking Dead and Batman for what they were (even if I did think the changes to Batman's lore were changes for the sake of changes rather than things that improved the narrative).
